Individual and institutional members are entitled to:
- Issues of the ChLA Quarterly and the annual volume of Children's Literature, both published by The Johns Hopkins University Press that year. The Quarterly publishes juried articles about research and scholarship in the field of children's literature, as well as special sections devoted to particular topics in children's literature. Children's Literature is an interdisciplinary journal which has been praised for its high level of scholarly and critical writing, and features articles on various authors, illustrators, and periods of children's literature, as well as interpretive essays and book reviews.
- The opportunity to order other ChLA publications.
- Reduced fees at the annual conference. Individual members may register at the member rate, and institutional members may send one representative from the institution to the Association's conference at the reduced rate offered to members.
In addition, the following benefits are also offered to all individual members, including retired and student members, but are not provided to institutional members.
- Semi-annual issues of the ChLA Newsletter.
- Full voting privileges, with election of ChLA officers, board and committee members held annually in February and March.

- Student membership (available to those currently enrolled at a university or college)
